The Problem

Why This Matters

Misinformation and lack of awareness are root causes of almost every social problem in rural India. Families don't vaccinate children because of false rumours about side effects — resulting in measles, polio, and whooping cough outbreaks. Women die in childbirth because they don't know that institutional delivery is free under government schemes. Youth don't know about skill training programs, scholarship opportunities, or job portals.

Substance abuse is a growing epidemic in rural UP — cheap alcohol and tobacco kill 1 million Indians annually, while newer threats like synthetic drugs and online gambling are devastating young lives. 60% of rural youth have no awareness about addiction helplines or rehabilitation programs.

Voter manipulation through misinformation, caste-based propaganda, and vote-buying undermines democracy. Digital literacy is below 20% in rural UP — people fall victim to online scams, misinformation on WhatsApp, and fraudulent loan apps. Gender-based myths (son preference, menstrual taboos, limits on women's mobility) persist because no one challenges them systematically.

Government Initiatives

Government awareness campaigns through ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and Gram Sabhas exist but reach is limited. Doordarshan and AIR (All India Radio) have dedicated slots but viewership/listenership is declining. Digital India programme has enabled Common Service Centres (CSCs) in many villages but they function primarily as service delivery points, not awareness platforms. MKSP (Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana) reaches some women but male engagement on gender issues is almost zero.

While the government has launched several important schemes and policies, the gap between policy and implementation remains wide. Bureaucratic delays, low awareness, corruption, and poor infrastructure mean that benefits often don't reach the people who need them most.

We organize awareness rallies, street plays (Nukkad Natak), and community workshops on vaccines, maternal health, women's rights, anti-addiction, voter awareness, digital literacy, and government welfare schemes. We help villagers access government schemes by assisting with applications, documentation, and follow-ups. Our Anti-Drug and Anti-Alcohol campaigns have reached 50,000+ youth.
